#72 - I want to wear cute strappy sandals, not wide-ass shoes!!

Maybe I'm just cursed with wide feet, but I find that when I'm fat, I need to wear wider shoes than normal. I hate this. It's summer and I'd like to be sporting some cute little strappy shoes. But instead, I'm usually in wide shoes. :( I remember as a thin person going into shoes shops and picking up the newest cutest little shoes and slipping them on with ease. Now, forget about it! Attempting to put on narrow little shoes is a joke! I can barely fit my toes into many of these shoes let alone my whole foot. It's quite comical actually, seeing me try on new shoes. There I am trying to squeeze my chunky feet into waaaaayy to tight of shoes. Even if I manage to squeeze my feet into the shoes, they usually look awful, with my chubby feet attempting to bust free, straining the straps to their limit. Honestly, I have some funny but cute feet. If that makes sense, lol. I have these pretty short looking feet when compared to the width of my feet. Pretty much my feet look like Hobbit feet (without all the hair, of course). But I do my best with what I have. I have found that strappy thong shoes work out pretty well, allowing my wide feet some room to breathe. That's about the only strappy shoes I can wear at this point. So I'm buying up as many pairs of flip flops and thongs as I can. I've got a pair for any outfit, casual or dressy, flats or heels, and every color to boot. Am I alone in this struggle? Are there other wide (*ahem* fat) footed people out there? Or is this just me? Do I just truly have wide feet? Hmm, don't know. But I do remember a time when I wore "thin" shoes! Now that I think about it, not only more narrow, but I wore a smaller size when I was thinner. Did my feet grow? Possibly, but it's probably just that I need more space to accommodate my fat feet. Who knows? Maybe I'll go from 9W back down to a 8. Guess I'll have to wait and see. Damn, guess I'll have to replace both my clothes AND my shoes when I lose weight. Only time will tell. But there are a pair of Jimmy Choos with my name on them waiting for me when I make it to goal.

I've gone up a size in shoes since putting on weight but in the last month of dieting the upper size I was fitting into are much looser - which makes me consider that it was water retention. I'm not fully back in the lower size, probably about half way between the two.

I think I just have wide feet. Even after losing 100+ lbs not all shoes fit me. I am finding it easier to find cute shoes which is great. However, I have just accepted the fact that I have wide feet. My mom even suggested (jokingly of course) that I could get the bone shaved. No thank you! I will take wide feet over that pain any day.

I have ugly toes too - and wide feet! So its just a curse.

Thankfully, my feel are not wide, but my ankles are fat, so there are a lot of shoes that make them look fatter and puffier. Like old lady feet.

What about high heels? I can't balance my fat bum in them to save my life--or my knees feel like they might explode. Is this a fat issue, do you think?

Personally I think you looked better before you lost the weight.

I weigh 364lbs and I love gaining every pound of it. I love fat and I love being fat, there are heaps of people who think fat=sexy!

There is such thing as a fat fetish. I personally think you should just learn to love your body.

I love mine, even though I want to gain more.

I just have wide feet, so even minus the weight, I still have wide feet. It pisses me off, and I curse my mother for passing them onto me :)

I have big feet (size 7) but having lost 3 stone some of my wider shoes are now too big. I guess you get fat on your feet the same as you do everywhere else.

Yep, my feet have definitely shrunk since losing weight...I'm stepping out of some of my shoes! You really do lose weight EVERYWHERE!!

Yes, you do gain weight in your feet, but your feet also get bigger as you get older. If you lose the weight, you may wear a smaller shoe than you do now, but maybe not as small as you used to wear.
I have wide, flat feet and having a smaller selection sucks.

For as long as I can remember I've worn a size 10 US shoe but could sometimes fit into a 9 1/2. Since I've been gaining weight I have a hard time fitting into 10s! I just assumed it was gravity working against all this weight and PUSHING me down and flattening my poor arches! :)

Yes...the fat, in addition to your genes will influence the size shoe you wear. I too understand this dilema. Remember..when you are heavier, your feet and ankles are swollen due to the weight. In addition to just widening and flattening to accomodate the excess weight.

You are doing a great job girl! Love your site. You inspire me!! Keep up the good work and let's all plan on getting some Jimmy Choos next July!

The bane of my existence....my whole life a triple E width, yes you read that right TRIPLE E WIDTH!!! Don't think that doesn't mess with a young girl's mind. Especially when I was younger, and the only shoes I could buy came from a store where a "shoe professional" fitted you. This translated to some smarmy guy with bad skin yelling across the store "Hey Larry, we got a TRIPLE here -- ya got anything in the back to fit 'er?" NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING could have been more humiliating to me at the time than having my SIZE yelled to all who could hear. And then, to be told that the "outsized" shoes hadn't come in for the season yet! Fortunately, I can now order many, many stylish, comfortable, WIDE shoes from Coward Shoes, Massey's and Zappos. Thank God for the internet!!!

lol...i wear a US 10...and thats i believe is getting toward the big side of the spectrum. before when i was smaller, my feet wree quite narrow...as i packed on the lbs, my feet bega to fit into average sized shoes comfortably...now at my largest, many average size strappy shoes are a no go for me. heels are not an option.....i can't stay balanced on those things and they make my feet hurt too much. i have a pair of strappy bronze heeled sandals...they have little jewels all over them. i look forward to prancing around in them......i think next summer they will be perfect.

Yes, either try shoes at Avenue (Cloudwalkers) - those *only* come in wider widths, and they do have some strappy ones...or order online. I have wide feet as well...runs in the family and probably has something to do with my weight as well. Some shoes, medium width is ok. Others, not so much, particularly if they're the strappy kind.

I can walk in chunky heels, but not narrow, spindly ones. Or the wedges where the heel is narrow and set closer to the middle of your foot.

I want to lose weight to wear cute shoes so I don't punch holes in the grass whenever I wear heels!

I have been reading your blog and I love it! I hated shopping for shoes for a wedding I was in because I could never fit in the shoes the other girls picked out. It was such an ordeal and so sad since I love shoes.

Hi chick, I just found your blog via another... as for ya feet, they are bound to go down a size once you've lost more weight.. it happens cos your feet are fat too! Mine did not go down in size which pissed me off actually! I have fairly wide feet too so wanted me feet to shrink... oh well, everything else did so I should be happy!

That is so true! I used to wear the cute little shoes (even though I have wide feet) but now I can't fit into shoes that used to fit. But I am confident that I will get back into those shoes again soon!

I started out with a size 10; depending on the shoe/style, I'm down now to a 9 1/2 but I suspect that's a medium or wide 9 1/2. It will happen -- enjoy it while you can because when you get older, you'll look back at your platform shoes and go, "How did I EVER wear those!?" :-)

I totally feel your pain. I'm a wide foot girl and I STRUGGLE with finding cute wide shoes. I would suggest http://www.payless.com
Payless has really STEPPED up their game. They have REALLY cute wide shoes. Even strappy ones. :D

Hi! I just found your blog and wanted to comment, albeit late, and wanted to comiserate. I have US size ten E's. My feet have gotten a little smaller since I"ve lost some weight but I just think I'll always have wide feet. It's the bones so I don't think they're going anywhere. I hate that I have to oder shoes online too because then you don't get to try them on and like any article of clothing, sometimes different sizes just fit different. it is such a pain!

Gah! thank god im not the only one! My feet are soo big and flat and wide! I wear size 10 1/2 - 11 and it's just not fair. I'm stuck with converse and keds most of the time. Forget about cute strappy pumps or even ballet flats. My feet just seem to want to destroy every shoe I put on!
